Windows 10 Review

Well in wasn’t very innovative of Microsoft to get rid of the start menu, we all know why don’t we? Windows 10 sees the rebirth of the start menu at its own familiar position. It’s a fusion of the windows 7 style that we are accustomed with, plus the Metro UI tiles that do not cover up your screen anymore. Moreover you can adjust the size of the start menu according to your wish. Windows store can now be pretty much viewed in a normal window.

Major changes include the action centre which has been redesigned similar to the android notification centre which of course is more beneficial to tablets. Windows 10 did what windows 8 failed; it created the perfect blend between Tablet and desktop UI. You see there is a tablet mode in the action centre which removes the desktop and adds a windows 8 style interference with the start screen.

In fact Microsoft has been lately picking up its-n-bits from Linux. They have introduced virtual desktop for people who don’t have a multi monitor setup. You get completely different fully customizable desktops.

Microsoft has introduced cortana, in simple words an AI like Siri. It is now much easier to open stuff in the computer. You can also talk with Cortana and do voice searches that give results from Bing. Microsoft has to do a lot of work to make Cortana really useful. Cortana can at time make hilarious blunders.

Developers are going to be quite happy when they read this. Command prompt supports keyboard shortcuts. No need to manually press all those GUI buttons to cut copy and paste

Windows 10 sees the end of the long-time Windows Media Center. This gets replaced by Windows DVD player. Yes similar to the one found in windows 98. But in Windows 10 you have to pay for the app for your pc to get multimedia support. I will always support VLC media player for this purpose for a free and better alternative.

We also see a replacement of the Windows Photo Viewer with the brand new photos app. It’s well optimized for touch and mouse. It can scan your one Drive account and make photo albums.

Even office integrates with One Drive quite well. One Drive integration is really a key feature of Windows 10 and share settings among a variety of computers. You can access all your files from any Microsoft device anywhere. It ends the need of remote connections and ftp completely.

Gamers must know that windows 10 is the onset of DX 12 and really it can improve performance in games by 10 to 12 FPS and also brings native support for 4k resolutions and higher, but if it is the latest – is it really the best operating system for gaming, find out from this website. Microsoft has also added features to play and connect with Xbox users. Its Xbox game store is now trying to directly compete with steam. The Xbox Video and Xbox Music apps have now been renamed to Movies & TV and Groove Music, respectively.

The scariest thing is games like minesweeper and solitaire which we have been playing from the times of Windows 95 now required you to pay close to $2, but you will still see ads. To remove these ads you will have to pay around $5. Moreover Windows 10 has tons of privacy issues. Microsoft records each key stroke you make so that they can fund advertisers and also to improve voice recognition in Cortana. That’s not good right? Less private users may not care but to some its very serious.

Almost perfect you may say. But windows 10 will never be perfect. This is the last ‘version’ of windows. Microsoft will just keep on updating it and get its revenue from ads and maybe paid updates. Windows might transition itself to a service model.
